The year 2024-2025 is coming to an end. And what a year it has been! Many of you have visited Pedagolab and taken an interest in the 16 articles published since September.

From the adoption of the lightboard and the opening of active learning rooms at ESSEC to the impact of AI on our classes, not to mention the teaching of statistics, or the use of imagination in business schools… These publications reflect the diversity of the projects undertaken this year. 
All these subjects, analysed by our experts, show the extent to which ESSEC is multiplying its initiatives to rethink teaching and support pedagogical transformation.

The Expanding Role of Statistics

Statistics play a pivotal role in today’s data-driven world. There is a high chance that, in a career lasting a few decades, a professional will be part of a project that demands a working knowledge of numbers, data, and their visualizations.

The way we teach statistics must reflect its growing importance in both professional and societal contexts. It should combine hands-on application with thoughtful interpretation, helping learners build analytical thinking skills while bridging the gap between classroom learning, industry practice and everyday experiences. Just as importantly, it must promote inclusivity by addressing gender dynamics.

Célébrer l’excellence pédagogique : la cérémonie de remise des prix de la Fondation ESSEC 2025

Le mardi 1 avril s’est tenue, à l’Institut Catholique de Paris, la quatorzième édition du Prix de la Fondation ESSEC. L’occasion pour l’institution de célébrer l’excellence académique, l’égalité des chances et l’entreprenariat. 

Cette soirée a notamment permis de mettre en lumière les innovations pédagogiques et les travaux de recherche menés par les professeurs de l’ESSEC. 

Parmi ces distinctions : les prix du Professeur et du Chargé de cours préférés et Spécial du Jury.
Cette année, les professeurs Cedomir Nestorovic, François de Laubier et Chrystelle Richard en ont été les récipiendaires.

Les gagnants des prix de l’enseignement 2025 témoignent.

What I learned at the Global Colloquium on Participant-Centered Learning

From July 21st to July 26th, I attended the 2024 edition of the Harvard Business School’s Global Colloquium on Participant-Centered Learning. This program is proposed to management faculty from partner business schools all over the world to rethink their teaching methods and improve their effectiveness as educators.

ESSEC selected me to participate alongside my colleague Rick Marchese. I was excited to learn from some of the best educators. I did not know exactly how I would be impacted by this program. How much would it change my views and practices as an educator at ESSEC?

Teacher writing on the lightboard

Teaching with a lightboard is now possible at ESSEC!

ESSEC’s Knowledge-Lab (K-lab) has recently been equipped with a lightboard. This technological tool is mainly used for teaching purposes, in particular to create educational videos and interactive lessons.

A transparent glass panel backlit by a LED light integrated into the screen, the teacher can write or draw on it using fluorescent markers.
These writings and presentations are then visible and recorded by a camera positioned on the other side of the board. This innovative device makes it possible to record educational videos while facing the audience.

International Finance in an international environment: a first-time teaching experience in Singapore

Ahmet taught for the first time International Finance for the Master of Finance, at the ESSEC APAC campus.

How was your experience ? Did you enjoy it ?

First experiences are always special. I loved it. It was a double challenge for me since it was my first teaching experience as an instructor and in a country that I have never been before (Singapore). However, it turned out to be a great time since I had a chance to meet and exchange ideas with many bright students in finance, professionals in industry and academics based in Singapore.

Writing and Publishing Cases at ESSEC

On October 15th 2024 ESSEC Dean’s office, K-lab and Together team organized an event about case writing and publishing.This event was an opportunity to gather the ESSEC case writing community and reiterate the importance of using the case method in business schools. It was also an opportunity to embark new colleagues, sharing good practices and presenting the resources and support available for ESSEC professors interested in writing and publishing cases. Last but not least, the event provided inspiration to colleagues by celebrating ESSEC Professor Harris Kyriakou’s recently awarded case.
